New to MIXO Pros & Cons after a few days of testing
Answered
Why MIXO caught my eye
- I remembered MIXO from launch but only just returned to DJing with a Denon Prime 4+.
- Engine DJ’s library manager wasn’t working out for me.
- MIXO stood out mainly because of mobile + cloud sync. For me, that’s critical since most of my playlist curation and listening happens while commuting or working.
- Other options like Lexicon didn’t offer proper mobile sync — only local sync at home, which makes no sense for daily use.
What I like
- Cloud & mobile sync: I can keep my FLAC library available anywhere.
- Linux support: rare in DJ software — huge plus.
- Concept overall: feels like MIXO is going in the right direction compared to anything else out there.
Where I hit problems
Desktop App
- File management is unintuitive. Switching SSDs between Mac Mini & MacBook broke links.
- Relocate feature wouldn’t batch fix paths.
- Ended up redownloading 80+ GB of music from cloud just to get things working.
- Sync creates deeply nested subfolders instead of mirroring existing structure.
- Cloud folder view strips subfolders (labels, Bandcamp, etc.), dumping everything into one root.
- Auto-play toggle works strangely: disabling it makes new tracks load but also stops current playback instead of letting it continue.
Cloud Storage
- Only a few services supported.
- WebDAV would be an ideal addition since it would cover many personal/home server setups.
Mobile App (Android)
- Crashes reproducibly with full library (~80 GB) downloaded; only reinstalling fixes it.
- Streaming is slow to load tracks.
- No Android Auto support — can’t control tracks or rate songs in-car.
- Audio dropouts: playhead keeps moving, but sound stops until I trigger another audio app.
- Small UX issue: in player view, swipe-back gesture doesn’t work — must tap the top arrow.
Closing thoughts
MIXO already solves one of my biggest pain points (true cloud + mobile sync), so I’m very happy it exists and will likely stick with it. But stability, file management, and Android features still need improvement.
Thanks for reading!
TL;DR
Pros:
- True cloud + mobile sync (huge for me)
- Linux support (rare in DJ world)
- Best concept compared to competitors
Cons:
- Clunky file management & sync paths
- Limited cloud storage options (needs WebDAV)
- Android app crashes, audio dropouts, no Android Auto
I absolutely love this feedback, than you!
Here's some info on your feedback:
- Switching SSDs between Mac Mini & MacBook will not work because the second device will automatically look for cloud paths. To play from the local path, which should be the same when switching SSD's between devices using the same platform, should be possible if you turn on "Skip Upload Tracks (use External Hard Drive)". Normally this setting is used on the primary device for users who only want to be able to sync between desktop devices using an external drive, but in your case you could actually just turn it on on the second device.
- Relocating tracks on the second device won't work because MIXO knows it is not the primary device. Again, the above feature is designed to overcome this. I appreciate it's not clear but it's a bit of a hacky feature and none of this is simple in reality!
- I'm not sure why sync produces deeply nested subfolders. We'll look into it, but I suspect it's starting as Users/...
- "Cloud folder view strips subfolders"; this sort of contradicts the above so not sure what you mean.
- Auto-Play, as per the info description; "Plays tracks immediately when clicked, and continues playing tracks in a playlist consecutively. When this setting is turned off, tracks are loaded into the player paused."
- Webdav is on the roadmap and will hopefully be available soon.
- Mobile devices are known to struggle with large libraries. If crashing occurs (often with libraries over 80,000 tracks), use the Selective Sync feature.
- Android slow streaming; this is strange since it streams in chunks, so could be network issues. Or perhaps certain file types require full decoding first. I'll have to check the logic!
- In the player view you can swipe left/right on the artwork to change the track, or swipe down to close the player modal. Swipe back is generally for paging, but the player is a modal that can be overlaid onto any view.
Hope this info helps and thanks again for the feedback! We're investigating now...

Hello! Thank you for your reply.
Yesterday, I wrote a very long post with more detailed information (around 7000 words lol), but I thought it might be too long, so I used an AI tool to summarise it. I will therefore go into more detail in this reply.
- SSDs: If I understand correctly, if I turn on 'Skip upload tracks', I won't be able to add music to the library on this device and have it synced to the cloud, meaning I won't be able to access the files on my mobile. This means I have to decide on one machine for my imports. That's not the end of the world, but it would be great if it didn't matter which device I import new music to.
- To clarify the nested subfolders: On my Mac Mini, I have an SSD called 'Data', which contains a folder called 'Mixo' and a subfolder called 'Music', where all my music is stored (further divided into subfolders such as 'Bandcamp' or 'Ektoplazm', where the actual albums can be found, as I like to keep organised by source).
The path looks like this: /Volumes/Data/MIXO/Music/Bandcamp/"insert album here".
Using the same SSD on both devices didn't work out as I thought, so I decided to use another SSD with the 'download all tracks from the cloud' feature. This workflow gives me a second local copy, which is a bonus, of course.
This SSD is called 'Music' and contains the folders 'MIXO' and 'Music'. When I set the downloads folder to 'Music' and activate the download feature, 'MIXO' recreates the original path, including the volume name of the other SSD. The path then becomes: /Volumes/Music/MIXO/Music/Data/MIXO/Music/Bandcamp/"insert album here".
In my Google Drive, I now have a MIXO folder containing the Music subfolder, and inside that I find all my albums. The subfolders, such as "Bandcamp" or "Ektoplazm", have been stripped. However, as described above, the folder hierarchy is recreated on my SSD when downloading.
- Auto-play: It's still weird to me that when it's turned off, the currently playing music stops just by clicking once on another track. For example, if I want to select a few tracks to move them somewhere else, this happens. Why can't the song currently playing just continue to do so until I double-click on another track to load it into the player?
- WebDAV: That would be great! I looked in the forum and found a comment from 17 months ago saying that it wasn't on the roadmap. Great news!
- App crashing: My library currently has around 1,500 FLAC tracks, totalling around 80GB. I find it odd that it doesn't seem to struggle with my 1500 tracks when the songs are NOT downloaded.
- Streaming: Yeah, it could just be because of FLAC that the caching takes longer, but I have great internet where I live, even on 4G/5G. As I don't have any MP3s in my collection, I can't compare. I could try it, of course, to see if that's the issue.
- Android player: Ah! Swipe down! Good to know — I can live with that :)
One thing you didn't address is the audio dropouts on Android devices.
To explain, here's what happened on my commute to work this morning (this happens every time I drive):
- I started the car and allowed my smartphone to connect wirelessly to the infotainment system, which then connected to Android Auto and triggered autoplay on Apple Music.
- I then stop Apple Music, open MIXO on my smartphone and press play.
- Music plays and I start driving.
- After about ten minutes, the audio cuts out. I look at my smartphone and see that MIXO is still playing.
- Restarting MIXO does nothing. Selecting a different song has no effect either.
- What actually works is going into Apple Music (or any other app that can play audio) and pressing play. This triggers the song from Apple Music and ALSO brings MIXO back to life, so now I have two songs playing simultaneously. I then stop the Apple Music song and can continue listening to the MIXO song.
As I haven't had a drive longer than 15 minutes to work since I got MIXO, I don't know if this will happen again after 10 minutes. But I will definitely find out on longer drives in the next few days.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post!
I think I've found the right product with the right team behind it :)
