Serato to MIXO to Rekordbox 6.8 for Laptop and USB
Trying out MIXO finally after seeing videos of DJs using the Rekordbox direct feature.
My experience so far:
Tested out
Import Serato crate to MIXO. Easy, no issues.
(Running Serato 3.0.12
macbook pro retina 15" 2014
MacOS bigSur v11.7.3)
From MIXO v 1.83.0 - Export to Rekordbox direct. Easy, no issues.
Played files from within Rekordbox on a laptop to verify functionality. Music works. Data still present. Cue points transferred.
Playing on Rekordbox 6.8.5
macbook pro retina 15" 2014
MacOS bigSur v11.7.3
Tested exporting same crate to USB to see what will happen. Some songs do not entirely transfer as per generated error log. Loading into a Pioneer CDJ 2000. USB will not read if formatted under ExFat. Reformatted USB to Fat32. Music loads, but noticeable bug: Waveforms do not show on CDJ 2000. Not all cue points load.
Tested MIXO to Rekordbox xml. Music loads onto Rekordbox laptop program. Music plays on rekordbox with cue points and bpm correctly transferred. Tested exporting same crate to USB to see what will happen. Some songs do not entirely transfer as per generated error log. Loading into a Pioneer CDJ 2000 as Fat32 format. Music loads, but noticeable bug: Waveforms do not show on CDJ 2000. Not all cue points load.
What ended up allowing for a USB to read correctly and show waveforms on rekordbox?
Bypassing MIXO and just copying a crate from serato to desktop folder then copying desktop folder to Rekordbox playlist. All songs load onto USB and CDJ reads USB and shows correct waveforms. Unfortunately, no cue points are transferred.
Software falls short for any laptop DJ trying to transition to USB.
Hi there and thank you for your detailed testing feedback!
When you imported the tracks directly from your desktop, Rekordbox most probably did a full analysis, which is why it worked. But the downside is no cue points unless you manually create them in Rekordbox.
I think the crucial part when exporting from MIXO is that you should allow Rekordbox to analyse all tracks, eg build the waveforms etc before transferring to USB. Then it should work, with cue points.
